: My J.D. 4000 is a little hard starting when temp. drops down .I currently have it set up with two 6 volts in series to make 12 volts, would two 12 volt batteries hooked in parellel start this tractor better. thanks gr. Hi guys, As a john Deere service tech i would like to say that deere has elected to go with two 12's instead of 2 6v's in all of their new applications. In these cases the alternator has enough capacity to charge both batteries easily. I have also seen farmers take their 2 6's out of their 30- 60 series tractors a replace it with one 12v. Like the biggest 12v strongbox (somewhere around 1000 cca). It seems to work for them. Brendon
