: : I have a JD 2010 that has been modified to a negative ground system. The generator has been replaced with an alternator. I would like to wire up a volt/amp meter to monitor the charging system. Does anyone know how I might do this? Any other ideas to keep an eye on the charging system? Thnx : Dave, : You can install either a volt meter or an Amp meter or both. A volt meter will tell you battery or system voltage. It will tell you if the charging system is working by the increase of voltage over normal battery votage. When chargeing you should see 13.5 to 15 volt verses normal battery voltage of 12 to 12.5. A volt meter is easy to hook up, one terminal would be grounded and the other would be feed power to it when you turn on your ignition switch. A amp meter is more common on older tractor and also will tell you if charging system is working the amp meter is wired in series between charging output terminal of alternator and the battery, it montitors direction of current flow and how much current (Amps) is being used/ produced. All accesseries would be hooked on the alternator side of the the two terminal gauge. Acesseries meaning ignition, lights, radio, ect. Know here is a third option if you want to use the original warning light and by chance the alternator that was used is a Delco or Motorola, you : can wire the original warnig lamp so it will function like it always did! I won't go into that unless you want to know more about it. Let me know if that is what you have and that is what you want to do. Good Luck.
