This week I got in my new 2017 Silverado 2500HD Duramax. I didn't order the OEM steps, because I really don't care for them and figured I'd find some aftermarket steps. So I went online to one of the various running board stores and looked to see what was available. A lot of running boards simply won't fit the diesel because of the DEF tank. I chatted with one of their salesmen, asked him what's been working and he made a recommendation. I ordered the recommended steps which came in this morning. I quickly checked to see if the brackets would fit, and it was no cigar. The bracket at the front of the DEF tank would fit if I was willing to drill a new hole in the rocker panel. There was no way I could get the one at the back of the tank (right where you're going to step) to fit. So I called the store up and was told they don't have anything right now that will fit the 2017 double cab Duramax. Apparently the DEF tank has been enlarged so what works for a 2016 won't fit the 2017. I'm not sure if this only applies to the double cab or to the crew and regular cabs as well.

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
