Well putting in on your property means they had one less reason to settle fast with you. If they are paying storage fees they will try and settle faster. I found this out when dealing with Nationwide. My son wrecked a 2 year old car. They offered me $3500 on a car that had 30K in miles and sold for $10k new. I argued with them from good Friday until Labor day to get $6500 out of the car. I had it towed to my farm. Should have had it towed to my local body shop. I also had to make them try and provide me an DIRECT replacement. They could not find with a stick shift. All they could find were automatics. The blue books shows stick shifts being lower in price. The actual resale value in my area made a stick shift sell for more.
Just remember the insurance company is your enemy in this deal. They want to pay you as little as possible. PERIOD!!! They will lie cheat and steal to do so. Then when they do pay out your premium will go up too.
How I get around it now is to carry just liability only. The value of my car means nothing to them. The money I save over a few year period will easily pay for any damage I have.
