We've got a Deutz 4006 that we are trying to start. We've just recently replaced the starter and the starter is now working, but the tractor still does not start. So we did the following:
1. Replaced the standard fuel filter 2. Cleaned the "IMSA" fuel filter 3. Replaced the fuel line that connected the fuel filter with "IMSA" fuel filter
We are now trying to bleed the fuel lines of air. We have been doing the following:
1. We have opened up the bleed (overflow) valve 2. We are pumping the manual pump (under IMSA filter) many, many times!
Virtually nothing ever comes out! We should be seeing a stream of diesel but we don't see anything - maybe just a few bubbles. The tractor might run for a second but not very long.
What are we doing wrong? How do we get the diesel to flow from the tank, through the fuel filters, and out of the overflow valve that we've opened up while we are manually pumping? I feel if we could ever get the diesel to flow out of this valve while we are manually pumping we would get the tractor started. Is there some type of priming operation we are supposed to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
