Just the way some people are. Two examples come to mind.
After a couple of times trying to teach our daughter (who generally knew more than anyone else) to drive a car, I refused. I expect a trainee to listen, not do their own thing.
20 years ago this month, we had a beautiful Feb. I was finishing up training for my private pilots license. My instructor was a very nice guy, (otherwise, I probably would have never gone through with). I was meeting him at a little local airport in the evening to do our night flying. He was finishing up a debriefing with another(older) student. I couldn't help but hear the conversation. Instructor never lost his cool, as student (also very nicely) had a "reason", or excuse, for every issue the instructor brought up. Then the moment we got together for our little pre flight chat, I felt it. Instructor was wound up tight, and shorter and sharper than he had ever been. He calmed down after a while, and we achieved the goal. But the whole attitude thing is NOT what I needed going into a new phase. I don't think the other student ever finished with my instructor. Which is different, as my guy was known for working with people, to get them past any snags they might encounter during training.
