Hi my brother has 5 of the IH/CIH tractors with German Diesels. 4 of them have the ether start attachment and the 495 has the Thermostart attachment with the glow plug in the intake manifold. There is more too the Thermostart than the glow plug. There is a "T" in the input fuel line to the injection pump with another line that feeds the input of the glow plug. See the link to caseih parts site. I can't remember if the key switch has OFF/ON/HEAT/START positions or if you push and hold the key in on the ON position for 30 seconds or so but usually when the glow plug starts to burn Diesel in the intake manifold there will be some white smoke from dirt or leaked Diesel and then it is time to keep holding key in and moving to START position. Works very well by burning a small quantity of Diesel fuel in the intake to warm the intake air. I believe it is better for engine than a shot of either.

Cylinders are the reason for the hydraulic circuit. They take the fluid power delivered from the pump and magically change it into mechanical power. There are many types of cylinders that one might run across on a farm scenario. Each one could take a chapter in
