: AR has a PTO that we use to run an auger.Explain Live PTO refers to the way the PTO is engaged, if you will. The purpose is to be able to disengage the ground drive without disengaging the PTO drive. Different manufacturers did it in different ways. In Fords later years, they began using a two stage clutch pedal; push half way, tractor stops and PTO (if lever is engaged) keeps running...push the clutch pedal full to the foot board and the tractor AND PTO disengage. Others (Oliver, Farmall, etc...) accomplished this with a seperate clutch on the PTO (usually a handle coming from the PTO clutch housing signaled this). If you brush hog, bale, use a spread, etc... without live power you tend to get a 'push' from the implement when you first push in the clutch and everything stops. Also a pain if picking corn, spreading, and such when the implement stops and you don't want it to. I guess the worst is brush hogging and getting push into a tree or over a bank because your brake are a bit weak...been there, no fun.
