I had the same problem with my Ingersoll 3016 with a 16 h.p. engine. I replaced the ignition module as well as the ignition switch itself. I also checked the coil and condenser and the voltage regulator. All of those proved to be working fine. So far the motor runs fine and does not shut off after running for over an hour. Sometimes the ignition switch gets old and breaks down internally. I had a Ford tractor that did that and replacing the ignition switch cured the problem. Electrical problems can be a pain to trace down. Check on the garden tractor site further down the page and ask Ken Combs about your problem. He knows a lot about Onan engines. Good Luck.
