45kVA output of the generator, figure 75 % efficient, requires 45/.75=60 kVA load on power source. At 746w/hp, 60/.746 = 80 hp input at the shaft at max rated output. Half load would be 40 hp. Probably enough kinetic energy in the system to handle starting surges of 10% or so.
Course watts are VA at a power factor of 1...voltage and current in phase, like a resistive load. So, as the generator's load becomes more inductive running uncompensated heavy starting/running motors, the PF would drop and that would skew the drive requirement.
Part of my house in on a Generac Standby gen of 11kw rating. Engine for that gen is 530cc 18 hp @ 3600 rpm rating. With that ratio, for 45 kva would require 45/11 = 4 x 18 hp = 73.6. Looks like my "guesstimate" of 80 is where it is.

However the number of AC tractors still in existence today as either restored or unrestored examples is a testament to the quality of their products. This in itself is always apparent here in the U.K when attempting a purchase, as no matter what the model or condition the price will always be strong.
