Just because a company builds an item to another company doesn't mean it's the same. Many companies do this. And there is a huge difference between "buying" and having "built". Most to the companies who sell to other manufacturers will sell a current item they market under the companies own name, painted and branded to the other company's name/colors but they will also set and run a separate line and build a similar product to the other company's specifications.
So in this case can JD buy an existing model having it painted, badged and numbered like they want it? Sure! Can they Spec one out and have the other company build it for them? Sure!
And yes Zetor did make some tractors for JD, just don't know is they still do. That doesn't mean that they are exactly the same as a comparable Zetor model. They maybe are and maybe not.
As far as sales? If I were selling Zetors I would mention to customers that Zetor is building tractors for JD "like/similar" this one. I wouldn't say "just like" this one unless I knew they were the same thing.
