The Milwaukee in the 1st photo is probably the most versatile unit. Those drill stands have almost 9" of vertical travel. They work good on a heavy plate for a bench top drill press. There are optional drill motors. I would be sure and get one with a 3/4" chuck. The larger chuck would allow you to use ordinary twist drills or Steel-Hawg annular cutters with the proper arbor. The Steel-Hawg cutters work great, but they are pricey and can't be resharpened. The other thing about the Millwaukee mag-drills, they are heavy. The Hougen mag-drills are light and work good, but they are geared more toward structural steel work. Depending on the model, they are limited to 1"-3" of hole depth. The smaller models use either a 1" or 2" long cutter. The good thing about Hougen cutters, they can be resharpened. You can get a Jacobs style chuck kit for the Hougen drills, but with only 2" of travel, you're really limited on how much it will do. We repair and fabricate a wide range of equipment where I work, so we have both kinds. It is a significant investment. I don't think we have really ever had a defect with either brand. Most problems are operator error. Ron
