I don't hang out on the Deere board but I figure I will get some of you guys here.
The '96 7800 MFWA I use for planting has started to have some trouble. Sometimes when you go from park or neutral to a forward gear it won't move. The transmission light flashes on the dash and it may or may not read a gear on the display. If I shut it down it resets it. When I start it then it works as normal. It is always from a stop, never when shifting on the move. It did it once last fall but has really ramped up lately and planting season looms near!
I talked to my buddies at Deere and they said it could be one of four solenoids on the top of the transmission (one of them was less likely than the others) and the cab has to come off. Do any of you have any experience with this?
They just rang my bell for $1500 for putting a seal in a boom cylinder on the 323d skid steer (it didn't act like that or I would have done it). I'd say they have me for $5000 so far this year so I'm really leaning toward pulling the cab and doing it myself. I'm not afraid to tackle it but wish I knew more. I googled it but haven't hopped on YouTube yet.

In the exhaust you can hear an occasion 'poofing' sound like somethings not firing on all cylinders. Under loaded conditions the tractor seems to lack power and it belches black smoke out of the exhaust. For some reason it just doesn't want to start up without cranking and cranking the starter. All these conditions can be signals that your unit is in need of a tune up. Ok, so what is involved in a tune up? You say, swap plugs and file the points....now tha
