Posting a picture here will get the most views and chance of success. If there are any marks or manufacturer info stamped into it that helps dramatically. If it is Percussion, or flintlock, and has no markings at all, it is likely to be hand made by one the small gun shops in the late 1700s to mid 1800s. Some of these can be very dangerous to fire, while others are operational. A bore and chamber evaluation by a professional gun smith is always needed prior to loading and firing a unknown firearm. Even more modern pieces with cartridges can be dangerous. A 45-70 trap door Springfield is black powder. The cartridge is often reloaded for modern rifles. Be safe. Jim
