: Wes Grounding the field wire probably sets the generator for maximum unregulated output. There's two possible connections and that's one where the field is internally connected to the hot terminal of the generator. You need to wire in a voltage regulator or leave the field terminal OPEN on the generator to not have it charge. I'd vote for a regulator to fit. Gerald
