When we had sheep we happened to be in the yard one day when when a guy and two kids came walking up the road. The dog suddenly took off after our sheep and quickly had a lamb on the ground. I went and got the dog off our lamb, and took him to the owner. After a few words with the owner I called the police. Fairly quickly an officer showed up with a photocopy of a page of the state law books. She showed me the part where it said that it was illegal for a dog to WORRY livestock, in other words to make them nervous. She asked if I had a gun and I told her that I did. I expect that laws are very similar in MOST states.
