Yeah. We used to own a farm house we rented out. People from in town would always want to rent it, saying they had this large dog that needed room to run. They always thought that if they turned the dog loose, it would just hang around within a hundred yards or so of the house. They'd never believe me when I told them dogs don't work like that.
I'd tell them that if they let that dog run loose, it would be dead within 24 hours. Farmers around here don't mess around. If they see a dog they don't recognize near their livestock, they shoot it without a second thought.
I took out a couple of stray dogs with a 9mm pistol once. When I told our local sheriff about it over coffee a couple weeks later, his only comment was, "Man, if you can put down stray dogs with a 9mm I ought to make you a Reserve Deputy".
