i use Edmunds, kelly blue book and nada. (There is also one call blacklist or blackbook but never got it to work.) then kinda look at them and see what makes sense. looking thru other places like craigsliist and eebay can give you an idea what others are asking/getting too.
you won't get dealer prices if you're selling yourself, don't expect it. I think most of the trade in values these guys will list will be higher than what a dealer will give you.
if you can get above trade in and close to "private Party" prices you're doing good. around here used car prices have fallen quite a bit. i've seen some 2 year old cars selling for $10-11,000 (1/2 of new price) with 25-40,000 miles. I've also seen a guy listing a 99 accord with 150,000 miles for $3500.. way too high.. he'll probably keep it.
depending on options if its in "average condition" Edmunds says between $3400 trade and $4200 private sale. if it has more options and is in cream-puff condition then more $
