Yesterday there was a house fire in Glen Carbon IL which is 10 or so miles West of our home town of Highland, IL. One adult the dad died in that fire the 6 children escaped the oldest was a 14yr old boy who saved his siblings. The mother evidently set fire to their house and left in their SUV with their young infant. She headed toward Highland and drove her vehicle into Silver Lake on the outskirts of Highland. It's our city lake. Some one driving across the dam saw headlights in the water and called 911. The paramedic jumped in the 40° water and saved the infant by giving him CPR on top of the SUV. The mother was no where to be found. She was found later yesterday at the bottom of the lake. The infant survived. Looks like this was a case of "The Burning Bed" movie that Farrah Fawcett starred in. So sad. The father was abusive and the mother was sited in the past for child endangerment. The police had been called 50 some times to their home in the last 10-12 yrs for domestic disturbance.
