: Any hints on replacing a fan belt on a Ford 9N with front end loader. I've seen two styles of pump drive.
One uses a splined shaft to engage a plate on the front of the crank pulley. To replace the belt on this style you just unmount the pump and pull the shaft out. Then you can easily replace the belt.
The other uses four pins on a coupler to engage four holes in the front of the crank pulley. On this style you can sometimes unmount the pump and pull the shaft forward enough that the pins disengage from the pulley. If this is true, you can get the belt on without too much trouble by pushing between the pins and the pulley.
The problem with the four pin style is that it may not be possible to pull the coupler far enough forward to gain enough clearance between the pins and the pulley. If this it true, you have to remove the set screw from the coupler, pull the shaft out and then remove the coupler from in front of the pulley. OF COURSE, THE SET SCREW WILL LIKELY BE RUSTED SOLID! If so, about the only choice is to replace the pump drive because you'll have to cut the coupling off the shaft.
