Just read an interesting article on a 1957-58 New Zealand overland expedition to the South Pole. The team, lead by Edmund Hillary, used 3 Ferguson TE 20 tractors to drive from the coast to the Pole, a distance of over 1200 miles. Through elevations over 10,000 feet and Temps lower than 40 below, the Fergie's equipped with half tracks and a canvas enclosure, never missed a beat....indeed, they had to pull more than planned when the team's Weasel lost a bearing and was abandoned. Each tractor accumulated close to 600 hours on the trip. They got stuck in crevasses, deep snow etc. but performed much better than expected. A tribute to Harry Ferguson and the little Grey Fergie!
Interesting read. Would you drive your modern tractor there? No way to plug it in; these guys took the batteries into the tent at night to keep them warm and ran 5 WT oil in the engine and Trans. Ben

Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
