I completely understand if a seller will not give out the VIN number over the phone or through email. However, I have purchased several Ford vehicles through Craigslist and I always ask for the VIN number. I then run the VIN through a buddy of mine who is a Ford parts man so that he can tell me the history of the vehicle and if there are any outstanding recalls. I've never been turned down whenever I ask for the VIN, but if I would, I'd simply move on to the next vehicle.
