The way it played out IH "kept" the truck division but who knows what would have happened if Ford made an offer that the stockholders could not refuse. The 1980's were a time when companies sold out when the offers exceeded the value of the share by a good margin. Disagree about the value of IH trucks to Ford. Ford was dependent on the small V8 diesel and as far as I know had nothing in the specialty lines such as with the Paystar series of trucks among others. I think Ford was down to the L8000 and L9000 trucks for light to medium hauling. Ford was not doing well as a company and at the time the solution seemed to be as much about what Ford did not offer as what it did offer.
