We finished spreading all the dry fertilizer yesterday. Then we switched the Prowler over to the liquid spray unit. This morning they sprayed some before the winds picked up. The ground is still too wet to do any tillage. The two finishers are hooked up and the tractors ready to go. Two of the three planters are hooked up and ready to go. The third is ready but that tractor is used for tillage until the corn is done and then they run three planters in beans.
The boys' custom farming business keep gaining acres. They have added over 800 acres this year alone. This really helps them cash flow better equipment than they could just farming their own ground. Right now over half of the total acres are custom work.
If we miss the rains this weekend the planters will be rolling later next week. The earliest planting date for corn with you still being eligible for crop insurance is April 11th this year. That means Wed.-Thur. things will get busy if it is dry enough.
They have a few hundred acres on some real sandy ground that gets no tilled it would plant now. So that is usually the first that gets planted.
