No chance of him being fired as he was here on his day off and no one would fire a great mechanic with his ambition and skills. As for giving him something like a gift certificate he would be offended as when he says that he wants no pay he means that it is a gift and a 'thank you" is enough.
His father is like him in that he often refuses pay for minor things. They have lots of friends in this area. Last year I posted that their garage caught fire and half burned to the ground on a Friday morning. Over 30 Amish men showed up that afternoon and stripped out the burned mess and on Saturday they completely rebuilt the building., and by Monday you would have had to look hard to see any signs of a fire. The Amish charged him nothing for their work as they said that he had done enough for them already.
