Hobo, I had a real nice Fisher-Paykel a few years back that my MIL had given my wife and I. It was around 20 years old, but really did a good job. When she gave it to us, it would leak water out the bottom. Being direct drive, it was coming out the main driveshaft that goes from the drum to the motor. It didn't leak enough water to say so, but she quit using it because it had a bearing getting loud as well. I looked up the parts, a couple seals, and a couple bearings. I think the parts were around $38. Took me a little while to figure out how to get the drum apart, but I got it apart, changed the bearings and seals, and put it back together. Took me probably an hour and a half, so I consider that cheap labor if I was going to be doing something useless, although I rarely do. When I got my parts, they also sent along a couple updated parts and pieces that I changed as well. I used it for another 5-6 years after that until the control board burned up. Then it really wasn't worth fixing, that part was around $130. Just an idea anyway, they're not too bad to work on, if you need to save some money.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
