When posting questions about the Ford 4000, be sure and specify whether it's a three or four cylinder tractor; they're totally different machines. The earlier four cylinder 4000 is basically the same as the 801 series. And within the four cylinder 4000 series there is a bewildering range of variants: gas vs diesel, standard vs row crop, five speed vs Select-O-Speed transmission. The more specifics you provide the better the advice you'll get.
If the engine isn't burning oil, there's probably no need to overhaul it. Make sure the transmission and clutch are working properly before you go into the engine.
