A few years back, our top load Maytag finally broke down for the umpteenth time, and at the time we were really low on funds. Saw an ad in a paper for (2) front load Maytag washing machines; one that the circuit board went bad and the other was some other problem - I think something to do with the drum. The guy wanted $50 for both, but wife got them for $25. Loaded them up, got them home, but didn't have a place indoors big enough to work on them, So I got one out of the pickup bed (a short box, no less!) and worked on the other in the bed of the truck, as the ground was still FULLY saturated from the Spring melt.
Not really sure how long ago that was - maybe 5-6 years? The "new" old washer is still going strong and hasn't required the slightest bit of tweaking.
