That's why people pay $60 for two gallons of Kubota hydraulic oil, or whatever it costs for IH Hytan this week, or any other branded specialized oil.
The manufacturers have us all running scared that if we don't use their oil, our equipment will explode in a hail of sparks. Unfortunately we have no way to prove them right or wrong that isn't extremely expensive. Just using the "right" oil is a lot cheaper than any repair or replacement, so we pay whatever price they ask.
Of course every person has their limit, so they don't get too overboard. They know just how much to charge that you won't say, "%$#@ it, I've had enough of this extortion. I'm using the cheap Tractor Supply oil."
