KB, Question, before answering,is the crack in a curved area or is it in a flat area ? If it is an ear or curve , you might get away with a form of arc weld . If it is in a flat area , leave the arc weld idea on the shelf . Do the oven method , Use a pile of fire brick , build a box to fit the work. Heat slowly with large propane torch (weed burner etc) heat to 1200 weld ,when done heat to 1500 and hold temp for 15 to20 minutes, cooling time from 1500 to 1000 must not be less than 30 minutes and slow cool to cold , in oven with cover that time will be about 12 hours.
If you understand cast iron ,you will know why arc weld is usually a failure . It does not matter how cool you keep the work while welding , the arc makes extreme heat and when that puddle cools , the material around the puddle contracts and being cast is not ductile something has to happen,either the weld bead splits up the middle or the bead pulls away from the base material (crack).
