In my community its friends and family only people are told not to come to public meetings. I've joined several groups fighting mega dairies and surprising the majority fighting are farmers also worked with several grazing groups did a lot of religious education work . But the most rewarding to me is helping others i do it quietly and with as little fuss as i can .I always believed that the best gifts given are the ones you don't plan on a reward. One of the best gifts i found to give is time i always made time to stop and talk with older people who no one has time for anymore stop at the cemetery for those who have no one to look after them anymore. I have several that are starting farming on i just recently gave a hay rake to he was having a bad day he was tired when i figured out his problem and it made him happy. A second one i gave a corn crib and alot of fencing stuff to it makes things easier when starting i know i been there.
