The plate in front of the drain is really the oil pump, pulling that cover won't gain you any access. If it was sitting out that long it was probably condensation or rain water. The water would concentrate on the bottom, so you likely just got it all out. I wouldn't be afraid to fill it back up with oil and run it, of course, checking the fluid levels closely for a while afterward.
If you wanted to reassure yourself you could always fill it with diesel and drain that, but it's up to you.
