I have never been a fan of Dodge trucks, or Chrysler products in general.
I have had 2 Dodge trucks, first was a mid 70's 3/4 ton van. That thing ran forever, bullet proof, but got terrible mileage.
Next was an early 80's Ram 1500. A total lemon! Mystery rattles, transmission failed, never to work right again, oil consumption, short brake life...
But air bag problems have plagued the entire industry, not just Dodge.
The air bags are made by Takata, sold to many manufacturers worldwide.
One of the problems is the explosive charge destabilizes with age and exposure to heat. Something the airbag mfg either had no way of knowing about, or forgot to mention it to prospective customers.
Can you imaging the liability issues involved in this! The cost of recalling the product, the lawsuits...
We drove a free rent car for 3 months while our Honda sat at the dealer waiting on back ordered air bags. Then immediately got another recall notice for the passenger side. Told us not to allow a passenger in the front seat, but OK to drive it, another 3 month wait!
