We moved to northern Michigan from central New York three years ago. Dug up some of our asparagus, wild leeks, and rhubarb and transplanted here. Biggest problem was getting the soil right. NY was high acid and mucky. Here in northern MI is is sandy and alkaline to neutral. Asparagus crowns will grow anytime you plant them but you want to do in the Spring so they have time to grow a new root system. Asparagus was easy since our soil is already neutral. We just found a patch of now-wild and huge asparagus growing along the road near us. I assume once upon a time it was part of a farm. 10 feet from the edge of the road. I knocked on the door of the house there and the owner told me he just mows that area. He had no idea there was asparagus there and did not care either. He is letting us dig it up so we will transplant that too. We found the wild leeks (ramps) the most difficult transplanting project.
