Never saw Ringling Bros, but Grandpa took me to a good one when I was about 10- they set up in a big field across the tracks from the train station, and we went down at 6 AM to watch. Same as someone else described- elephants did the heavy lifting, very neat to watch. Don't know if they recruited any bystanders- I would have been too young to be of much use.
Took my kids a couple of times in the '80's- circus was OK, but kind of left a bad taste because of a "bait and switch" on the tickets. There were free kids tickets all over town (kids free with paying adult), but the free sections were at both ends, and you could only see one of the 3 rings. They expected you to "upgrade" to get seats where you could see everything. And of course, the kids are putting pressure on as well.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
