Not sure whee this idea that Ford offered a relatively high pay scale so that his employees could afford the product they made came from. The truth is Ford was forced to offer the high pay to get people to do something new- stand in one spot all day long on an assembly line, working like madmen, turning out as many car parts and car as they could in their shift. He couldn't keep people paying lower wages. There was lots more that went with it, like Fords company detectives keeping watch on employees in their off hours, etc. But we can worry about that another day.
