I reckon my experience with Dakotas has been WAY different than yours! I own 2 of them, a '93 and a '97- both of them had over 100k ahen I got them, both of them are SLT Club Cabs, both are 4x4s, both have the 318 w/ 4 speed automatics and have been trouble-free. ( the '93 has just over 200k miles and the '97 has 131k miles on the odo). Both of them have 3:55 axle ratios but would be better if they were 3:92 or 4:11, as would most of today's crop of 'full-size' pickups (I don't buy a TRUCK for mileage and anyway, the autos today all have at least one overdriven gear). The only reason that I would like lower gears is to take the strain off of the entire drivetrain when pulling, but the Dakotas both handle trailers with no problem ( the mountain grades here will make them work, however!); just as with any tow vehicle, bigger trailers need good brakes. :D

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
