While Raccoon hunting in Indiana, Our neighbor (Immediately next door neighbor) who knew we hunted behind his property, decided to see what all the commotion was about at the end of his field. He was 2.5 sheets to the wind. He jumped in his 59 ford sedan, and whizzed down the open field at about 40. We saw him coming, and expected to discuss what ever he had on his mind. There was a terrible crash and the Ford stubbed its lights into the ground, and bent in half at the drivers floor distance from the front bumper. He had ran into the side (true 90 degrees) of his own 10 foot IH disk harrow. It had been in that spot for 5 years and was sunk into the soil to the blade spindles. it did not move. I ran (I was chosen as the runner as I was 17) and got my dads car and drove it to the site. He was not pinned in, but had a broken collar bone and nose. My dad transported him to the hospital about 15 miles away. The remainder of us explained what had happened to the wife and family. They then went to the hospital and the hunt was abandoned. Jim

The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
