Cut and rolled 38 acres week before last, good weather and everything went well but didn't make as much hay as last year.
Came a heavy 3 inch rain as I was leaving the field (luckily in a cab tractor).
Cut and tedded another 44 acres last monday, fields where wet from the heavy rain over the weekend and more rain was forecast by the end of the week, got a surprise 3/10" rain tuesday morning and had to reted everything again, after retedding again wednesday we were able to get some raked and started baling late that afternoon but evening moisture stopped us with only 45 rolls made, thursday after tedding out the unraked windrows due to ground moisture we got all of the hay raked and another 150 rolls baled, friday we flipped the windrows over and gave them a couple hours to dry before finishing up the rest of the field, it was a long week and even though the hay dried and was in good condition the tires on the tractor and baler stayed wet because of the ground moisture.
Finished cutting 12 acres last evening and plan to finish cutting the last 35 acres today.
A guy down the road offered me another 10-15 acres this morning for free if I'd cut it, it's about 15 miles away and normally I don't travel that far, but with everything we've cut so far coming up short of last year I'm going to look at it tomorrow.
We've had a very wet spring like last year but we had a very dry fall and feed hay during Sept and Oct, finished feeding in Apr with only 35 rolls left of the 950 I had rolled up last year. Normally we only need around 800 rolls but I'd like to have some extra in case pastures dry up again.
