I wired the 7 way plug on my 2007 GMC. The positive connection on my dump trailer went bad, so I just used a 2 way plug and wired it form the +12v wire going to my truck 7 way and ran it back to the dump trailer battery. I use the same 2 way plug on my tractor to charge battery when I'm pulling it with tractor.
I can very easily disconnect the wire when I dumping or simply turn off the truck or tractor. Keep it simple, you don't need a relay. I also put a 20 amp circuit breaker in line with my +12v charging wire on trailer. Never needed it, but can't be too careful. I also installed a 20 amp circuit breaker on the +12v wire on the truck and tractor. geo.
