: : I need to mow about three acres beginning in spring. I think I want to use a small (old) tractor rather than a new lawn mower. Anyway, I'm looking at a Farmall Cub w/ belly mower. Can it handle a small front loader (for snow)? Also have a lead on a Case VAC w/ belly mower. I'm very new to old tractors, till now my only love affair with engines has bee old VW's ('72 Cabriolet). Anyone got an opinion to share w/ me on the tractors? Thanks to all. : Asking which tractor is best is kinda like asking which religion is best. Lots of opinions. The real answer is that there are many tractors that will serve you purpose. A cub in on the low end (10 hp) but would do the job and is very cute. Lot of folks like the 9n-2n-8n Fords for the same reason (small and cute). They would : work well too. John's concern about the pto is valid, but can be greatly helped by an adapter that goes over the pto called an overrunning adapter that frees the mower from pushing the rear wheels of the tractor when you are trying to stop. Allis makes a bunch of small tractor types, as does Farmall. Deeres are everywhere and : would fit the bill too. Maybe you could choose by color. Which do you prefer, red, green, orange or grey? More important than favorite color is the nearness of a good dealer for the color chosen. Gerald
