: I am considering the purchase of a Farmall Cub to be used to flatten and mow approx ten acres of what used to be farm land. : While I am sure a plow, disk and drag will flatten the existing rough spots my concern is then using the tractor : as primarley a lawn mower... I have heard that when used as a mower this really taxes the motor to it's fullest extent. : any thoughts would be helpful. The cub is too small for that size lot. They are basically a garden tractor meant to work on 1/2 an acre or so. You can use it on 10 acres, but you're going to be there for a long time. Also, the mower size for a cub's power is only arounf 48"... I'd look at a IH 'C' or 'H' for that size place if I wanted a machine from that era. If I were you I'd go for a more modern machine with 3-pt hitch, live PTO and power steering in the 30 HP range to work on 10 acres. Then I could run a 96" mower deck at faster ground speeds, and cut the grass in a reasonable time (measured in hours, not days).
