: I am considering the purchase of a Farmall Cub to be used to flatten and mow approx ten acres of what used to be farm land. : While I am sure a plow, disk and drag will flatten the existing rough spots my concern is then using the tractor : as primarley a lawn mower... I have heard that when used as a mower this really taxes the motor to it's fullest extent. : any thoughts would be helpful. My father farmed 50 acres, 20 in hay, for nearly 20 years with a farmall cub and was very pleased with it. We always used a cycle mower for cutting the hay. The neighbor used a cub to work a 110 acre farm for about 25 years. It took a little longer, but it got the work done. Cubs maybe a under powered, but you can get a lot of work done with them. A thirty horse tractor with a 5 foot brush hog on the back will get the work done faster, but your initial investment will be much more. A cub should be able to handle that 10 acres pretty well. I sure wish I had one now.
