It has the same bolt-pattern as the two-cylinder engines. 1010 and 2010 engines are not all that bad. Much I hear about them in nonsense. Biggest issue with them when it comes to durability was owner abuse and ignorance. The other negative is that they never had much aftermarket parts support, so for many parts - you have to go to Deere.
I guess you can put any engine in if you want to do a lot of adapting work. Or - maybe bolt in a two-cylinder? A 420 two-banger has the same size engine, more or less, as a 1010 gas engine. 113 c.i versus 115 c.i. But a 2010? Big engine. 1010 diesel and 2010 gas use the same sleeves are are 144 cubic inches. 2010 diesel is 165 c.i.
If I had one I liked, I'd just rebuild the engine once, take care of it, and it would outlast me.
