Not sand on the hill tops here. It is more clay as years of tillage have gradually worked the blacker soil downslope to the low spots. They always show up white in an aerial view.
Bruce, I think that old Red River Special was last used to thresh oats in the mid 1950s so it has been a while.
The "lake" , slough off in the distance is not mine but on a neighbour's field. I think it cuts the field in half
