The cutout is not polarized it is the generator that needs it. It is a common error due the the use of a jumper on the relay. The jumper from Bat to Arm on the cutout causes the field windings to become magnetized. this magnetism stays in the iron of the poles. The High/Low switch on the dash controls the field circuit by providing a ground. On Low charge, the field current goes through a resistor to ground at the dash. This reduces the charge rate. When on High, the field is directly grounded allowing maximum charge. The switch must be grounded to the dash, and the dash must be grounded to the tractor. To test it, use a jumper to connect the field terminal on the gen directly to ground. Start it and measure the voltage. If none, make sure the gen is grounded to the tractor brackets.
