Dad Came racing over the hill with the SC Case and F-2 Case combine behind him when a storm come up ,. i could not had been older than 4 yrs old , my sisters and i were out on the big wrap around front porch .. as DAD went under a big burr oak tree,,a lightning BOLT hit the tree, he rounded the corner and pulled up into the lean to to protect the combine ,and i remember the SC being left outside, steam a rolling off it from rain , Dad Come It Telling Mom , I got Shokt !,. after supper we went out and the top of the elevator of the 's drawbar ,..the burr oak tree died ,.it was humonguos, easily shading 150 ft circle ,, but not that tall ,, when Dad and his army Pal George Cut it Down ,. it nearly killed them ,,. as it fell my mother screamed like a girl ,. Georges Son Fred was there with my older brother ... we found Dad safe and unharmed between the boughs and flat on the ground , his saw was under the trunk (and that saw was repaired to run again) ,but George's legs were pinned by a arch in the limb He said it did not have a lot of weight on him , BUT He Said He" Needed A good Strong Snort Of WHISKEY,"which he and Dad and Mom all got straight away , i recall digging with my hands with Fred with a shovel while dad and Mom used across cut saw to get him out,,. it took a while to get George out but he was not hurt ,,.that is one event i will never forget ,. the hand of God Truely protected everyone ...
