coshoo, I bought this terramite 9 years ago, 2004 with 400 hours on it. I take it slow and easy, haven't damaged it. 1800 hours on a 20 hp Kohler command should say something. It's still running strong. Doesn't burn oil. When I moved the log, I was running engine at a fast idle. Had all the hydraulic pressure needed to get-R-done.
That's a bolt on stationary thumb. If I extend the arm all the way, lower it over log, I can curl the back bucket and grab the log. Then pull the log in closer to rear wheels before I attempt to lift it. Otherwise the front wheels will be lifted off the ground.
So log is ballast that will not only keep rear wheels on the ground, it will transfer weight off the front wheels. The more weight I want transferred, the more I will extend it backwards.
The way I use this toy, mostly yard work, I will never have liquid ballast in tires because liquid can't transfer weight off the front wheels and secondly the more weight I have deeper the ruts I would create in yard.
If I have it too far back and forget to pull it closer to rear wheels before I drop the log, I'll do a wheelie. First time it was a little scary, but wheelie stops when ballast log hits the ground.
Thumb is also useful when I'm removing brush. I can grab brush with front forks and back hook and take it to burn pit. geo.
