when I bought my 450 on Craigslist I talked to the guy on the phone told him I was on my way to look at it. I drove 2 hours one way, in a car, and after looking at the tractor and driving it decided I wanted it. The seller and I discussed the price and came to an agreement and we shook hands on it but I told him it would be a week before I could come get it. He said that was fine but I said I wanted to leave him some money to hold it. I think I gave him $300 to hold it and he promised to take the ad off of Craigslist that night. He did, later I went and picked up the tractor. If I hadn't put money down on the tractor I don't think he would have taken it off CL.
I've been burned as a buyer and a seller; I try to put some money down if I want it. But I've had stuff sold out from under me. I've sat at home waiting for a what my dad called bebackers.
