W_B has great information. I will add that theload on the Girt attached to the building needs to be fastened with lag bolts (two per contact point) if the Girt is on 24" or 16" centers. If on 4' centers, I would use a 2X12 for the girt and 3 lags. The lag bolts should be at least 2.5 inches into the support, and have flat washers under the heads. Joist hangers are available with a built in pitch matching the roof pitch of the lean too. Snow load factors and engineering of the rafters are important and need to be done by an engineer or builder that would sign off on the plan!!! I recommend no less than a 2:12 pitch on a standing seam or corrigated metal roof, and no less than 3:12 on shingles if they are 1/2 spaced. Jim
